A Preview of Sector Roles in School Collaboration

Here's a quick look at how the skills and resources of the sectors can be translated into opportunities for building strategic alliances and collaborations. Nonprofit enterprises that have historically provided nontraditional products and services to underserved markets can use their local knowledge and experience to assist schools in developing targeted programs for specific student populations in their respective communities. Private corporations that have invested heavily in technology systems that improve how they monitor the operations and activities of subsidiaries around the world might be able to apply this same technology to a local school or school district as a way of helping to develop better ways of evaluating different aspects of teaching and learning. Public sector entities that are responsible for implementation and school oversight, locally and statewide, carry indispensable knowledge and experience that would be advantageous as partners strive to retool school systems and structures. Religious sector leaders and institutions are critical to the success of any plans to restructure local schools because their prominence, presence, and influence are unmatched in local neighborhoods and communities. Citizens and parishioners increasingly seek guidance and leadership from communities of faith regarding everyday issues and concerns.
