Committed Advocates For Our Youth
Irresponsible and incompetent school leaders and school governance groups are a stark reminder that only those persons committed to raising the standards and expectations of schools should be appointed to these positions and allowed to serve. Although many reform efforts are rightly focused on ensuring that we have highly qualified and competent teaching professionals in the classrooms, comprehensive and effective school transformation must emphasize the need to recruit visionary, talented, and dedicated school boards, school superintendents, and school administrators. Communities must make sure that they elect and support individuals who not only care about the academic future of our children but also will work diligently to protect their rights to a high quality K-12 education as American citizens. Our young people deserve advocates and stewards who possess a strong vision and will to transform schools into world class places of education and learning. We can no longer sit by idly while some use their positions as school board members or school leaders to achieve their hidden agendas while students continue to suffer in our nation's classrooms.
Committed public school advocates must be primarily concerned about achieving corrective responses to the failures and inadequacies that have consistently plagued schools over the past few decades. We need public education servants who are willing to listen and partner with educators and others who possess relevant experience and knowledge pertaining to the curricular and extracurricular programs in school age education. It cannot be acceptable for some who try to impose untested plans and ideas in classrooms solely for the sake of change. Nor should it be allowable for others to remove competent and proven educators because of personality conflicts and the like. School advocates who possess the will and fortitude to accomplish real and substantive improvements in elementary and secondary education will be counted on to lead and mute the voices of those whose agendas have nothing to do with educating our youth. Hopefully, the true advocates will become even more vigilant about protecting the education rights of students everywhere and not allow others to hijack our schools to fulfill their misguided and unethical agendas.
